These days pregnancy has become a very complicated proposition due to late marriages. Rising pollution levels, decreased nutrition in food, junk food, lack of physical activity is making both men and women genetically weaker. Pregnancy is now happening in late twenties or early thirties which is causing complications during the pregnancy. Advanced diagnostic tools are now available to do regular scans of the fetus. Blood tests are done to monitor the health of the mother. Ultrasound scans are done to monitor the growth of the fetus and to rule out any congenital anomaly. Pregnant woman needs the care of a gynecologist during the ante natal period. Regular checkups are extremely important to give birth to a healthy baby. Regular medications and supplements are prescribed to cover up any kind of deficiencies. Good diet and regular exercises are also prescribed by our gynecologist.
Ante Natal classes are organized at our centre where the pregnancy women are trained to do the right kind of exercises which will help in the development of a healthy baby and keep the mother in good shape. Mother should take the appropriate amount of nutrition during the pregnancy and not do binge eating. Increased obesity results in a difficult and risky delivery.
The Ante natal package at CLAGS Centre in Mohali contains unlimited number of consultations with the gynecologist and ante natal exercises. The package also includes 4 ultrasound scans - first ultrasound is done around 6-8 weeks to see the fetus viability. The second ultrasound is done around 10-11 weeks known as Level 1 or NT Scan and the third scan is done at 15-17 weeks to find out any congenital anomalies in the fetus. This is known as Level 2 Scan and is the most important ultrasound of the pregnancy. If the fetus has some major congenital abnormalities then you can get the pregnancy aborted before the 24th week which is the legal provision in India under the MTP Act. In the third trimester some more blood tests are done to keep an eye on the haemoglobin levels, iron levels and thyroid levels. A colour doppler exam is done around the 30th week to see the loops of umbilical cord around the neck of the foetus, position of the baby and blood flow to various organs of the baby's body. Ideally the baby should be positioned with its head downwards to ensure normal delivery. During all these ultrasound scans the heart rate and body weight of the baby is estimated. A healthy baby should weigh in the range of 2.5 – 3 kg just before the due date of delivery
